O’Donovan parades Mercedes Benz Econic skip loader

O’Donovan Waste Disposal unveiled its latest fleet additions at yesterday’s (23 March 2016) CLOCS (Construction Logistics and Cyclist Safety) Progress event, staged at the ExCel Centre, London.

Centre stage was its first Mercedes Benz Econic 4x2 skip loader 1830L –0 thought to be the first of its kind bought by a commercial operator and put to work in the UK.

Originally designed for municipal waste work as RCVs (refuse collection vehicles), the Econic has since been repurposed for the construction sector buy Mercedes-Benz, as CLOCS and so-called safety trucks came to prominence.

CLOCS Champion O’Donovan’s new truck has a wide field of vision facilitated by the Econic’s iconic panoramic windscreen, fully glazed floor to ceiling nearside door and lowered driving position. The glazed door in particular provides direct visibility of the nearside blind spot.

The operator also specified a range of additional CLOCS safety features including a side scan system, side under run protection, left hand turn audible alarm and conspicuity markings.

“The whole purpose of CLOCS is about resolute steps and cultural change to reduce the road danger posed by construction industry vehicles,” comments charismatic O’Donovan Waste Disposal managing director Jacqueline O’Donovan.

“As a progressive company known for bold decisions, we are keen to ensure we are making the best choices to help further protect vulnerable road users.”
