Commercial vehicle wheel safety is to be challenged tomorrow (29 March 2011) in a debate at Westminster Hall, led by Paul Goggins MP.
The debate, between 1.30 and 2.00pm, will focus on how substandard second hand wheels are entering the commercial vehicle wheel supply chain, and what can be done to monitor and assess the scale of the issue.
Goggins (Labour, Wythenshawe and Sale East) has acted as the main facilitator for correspondence between John Ellis, managing director of Motor Wheel Service, and the Department for Transport.
Motor Wheel Service estimates that more than 10,000 second hand and take-off wheels entered the market in 2009, of which the vast majority were sold by companies that do not possess the technical abilities or examination procedures to ascertain wheel fatigue.
