The Leicestershire based distribution and warehousing specialist introduced the software two years ago to cover its 200-strong fleet of trucks and trailers
"We made the decision over two years ago to work with Verilocation so that we could offer our customers greater transparency, control and efficiency on a day-to-day basis," states says commercial manager Mark Steel.
"The fleet management system was installed with no interruption to our business and it 'bolted' onto our existing traffic office procedures," he continues.
"Since then, we have benefited from live tracking and telematics across the fleet [which] gives us the management information to integrate a range of cost saving measures.
Steel cites everything from automatic route planning and geofencing to driver education and training.
"Furthermore, using GPS real time tracking, we can let our customers know precisely when deliveries and collections are expected," he adds.
"And through CANbus technology and fuel analysis, [we can] achieve actual mpg improvements which, in turn, helps us to remain competitive."
The system also facilitates a web-based 'track and trace' service, which provides proof of delivery within a claimed five seconds from the drivers' PDA. Meanwhile, the customer portal allows customers to book all jobs online, directly with the Premier Logistics' operations team.
Premier Logistics also report time savings from the automated booking system, which allows jobs to be allocated rapidly – while customers can see full audit trails for each vehicle journey.
In addition to providing fleet management services for tractive units, Verilocation is also supplying Premier Logistics with real-time GPS trailer tracking and monitoring.
"This is another bonus : the trailer tracking gives us and our customers an additional degree of assurance regarding trailer whereabouts and security," states Steel.
For him, it's central to increasing fleet efficiency and competitiveness.
