Relaunch of IRTE Mercia Centre slated for June

IRTE's Mercia Centre is being re-launched in June in association with the IMechE, which holds evening lectures at Derby and Loughborough Universities.
The new IRTE Mercia Centre chair is Alan Parker and its secretary is Roger Denniss. Historically, IRTE Mercia events were well attended when held at the Bass headqarters in Burton upon Trent. Denniss concedes that might have been due to free beer, but insists he expects considerable interest. To launch the new Mercia Centre, he has planned a conference in the mock courtroom at Derby University on 22 June -- with a mock court, judge, barristers and jury. Subjects to be scrutinised are: the case for longer and heavier vehicles (LHVs), led by Dick Denby; Corporate Manslaughter relating to insecure loads and road wheels, led by Michael Ponsonby; meaningful methods of measuring fuel consumption, led by Dr Michael Coyle; and challenging fuel saving interventions, led by John Eastman. For details, contact Roger Denniss on 01283 702269 or email him at lorry.logic@virgin.net
