Renault launches 18t gvw electric rigid

An 18 tonne D Wide Z.E. rigid is joining Renault’s full-electric 16 tonne D Z.E. and 26t D Wide Z.E. models. The manufacturer is also offering a wider range of wheelbases and special connectivity for refrigerated bodies.

Serial production of the 18 tonne D Wide Z.E. (not pictured) is starting at Renault Trucks’ Blainville-sur-Orne plant (Calvados), where the D Z.E. and the D Wide Z.E. have been manufactured since 2020.

Equipped with a two-axle chassis for improved manoeuvrability, the 18 tonne D Wide Z.E. is said to be the ideal vehicle for temperature-controlled distribution, with an optimised payload.

In addition, Renault Trucks has designed a new system to increase the energy efficiency of all-electric trucks equipped with a refrigerated body. All Renault Trucks D Z.E. and D Wide Z.E trucks are now available with a fridge-connection option, which supplies the energy required for the refrigeration system directly from the vehicle's 600 V traction batteries.

Finally, for improved manoeuvrability, Renault Trucks has also extended the range of wheelbases available for its D Wide Z.E. from 3,900 mm to 6,800 mm (in 12 models), optimising load distribution to cover more applications. As well as distribution, Renault Trucks expects strong interest from light construction, building supplies and skip operators keen to offer the best possible service to their urban customers.

The vehicles, rated at 18 and 26 tonne, are both eligible for an additional load dispensation of one tonne for the heavier EV powertrain.

The D Wide Z.E. trucks, available in 18t and 26t models, feature two electric engines with a total power of 370 kW (continuous power of 260 kW) driving through a two-speed gearbox, providing maximum torque of 850Nm. Energy storage comes from lithium-ion batteries of 200 and 265kWh capacity. A total of 12 wheelbase options are available. Operating range is said to be from 100km for waste collection, and up to 180km for distribution.

The 16t D Z.E. model is available in 4,400 and 5,300mm wheelbases and comes fitted with 185kW motor (130kW continuous power) running through a two-speed gearbox producing 425Nm torque. Energy storage comes from lithium-ion batteries of 200 and 265kWh capacity. Range is up to 400km.
