April's registration figures for new trucks show Renault apparently outperforming Iveco, Volvo and MAN, and achieving an average 8.94% market share, above 6 tonnes.
In more detail, Renault Trucks took 13.7% of the total heavy tractor market, giving it a 10.6% market share for the year in this sector, up 3.1% over 2009. Then, in the 8x4 sector, it took 11.7% market share for April and 10.2% for the first four months, while in the 7.5 to 16 tonne market, it took 6.8% for April, up 46% on the same period in 2009.
Nigel Butler, Renault Trucks' commercial director, says the result puts the organisation at 6.83% overall market share as at the end of April 2010, compared to 5.06% for the same period last year.
"In a heavy truck market that's down 26%, to gain market share is a significant achievement," he says. "We've had strong registrations in both March and April, coming from a mix of fleet and retail network business," he adds.
As for the future, he is not alone among truck manufacturers in predicting better times. "Although we're a long way from being clear of the current economic issues that the UK faces, we are definitely seeing some signs of increasing confidence from the market," he asserts.
