The Supra systems have been mounted to triple compartment Solomon bodies on a mix of Volvo and Mercedes-Benz rigid truck chassis.
Each vehicle will be used for up to 17 hours a day, delivering a mix of ambient, chilled and frozen produce from the company’s distribution centres to its expanding network of 31 stores.
The family-run retailer specified the Supra refrigeration units after trialling Vector 1950 trailer equipment.
Key to the decision, it says, was the Vector’s proven performance and the suitability of the Supra 1150 MT units for multi-temperature deliveries.
“We tested our first Carrier Transicold refrigeration units last year and have been thoroughly impressed with how efficiently and reliably they worked,” says Mark Glover, head of logistics for Booths. “As a direct result, we didn’t hesitate to specify the Supra units for our new trucks.”
The Supra 1150 MT unit is designed for intensive distribution environments with frequent door openings. Advanced evaporators with electric fans optimise airflow, allowing quick temperature recovery and improved air management independent of engine speed.
Separately, Carrier Transicold has announced new equipment and options for its Supra range.
A cab command panel includes a large white backlit screen, enabling drivers to see key information easily.
It fits the standard DIN format used for audio heads – making installation simple – and will be introduced next year on all new Supra mono- and multi-temperature units. It will also be offered as a retrofit option on existing units.
The company is also offering customers an emissions-reduction package, with a low-emission diesel engine claimed to reduce particulate matter by up to 50%.
It also uses R-452A refrigerant, which has the same capabilities as standard R-404A, but offers a 45% reduction in GWP (global warming potential).
And it includes Carrier’s Silent option kit, for quieter operation.
For night-time or urban delivery fleets requiring even quieter units, the ‘Pure’ pack can be specified on the PIEK-compliant Supra City units, which operate below 60dB.
