Rhys Davies Logistics has commissioned four Mercedes-Benz Actros tractor units – the operator's first Euro 6 trucks – along with its first short trailers, five 10.8m curtainsiders from Lawrence David.
Supplied by dealer Euro Commercials (Wales) with a five-year Mercedes R&M contract, the Actros StreamSpace 2543 tractors were specified with Daimler FleetBoard telematics.
The trucks were alos equipped with ActivFreddie air defectors, which adjust automatically to match trailer heights.
The Cardiff-based logistics firm trialled several demonstration units before placing the order with Mercedes.
The Actros tractors are operating on double shifts and are expected to cover 200,000km per year.
The trailer order also included a 15.65m double-decker – Rhys Davies is already running another three of these maximum-length versions, as part of the government's 10-year longer semi-trailer trial.
The company's 180-strong fleet mostly comprises 18- and 26-tonne rigids, and it has 200 semi-trailers.
