Chris Barlow, depot manager for the national road surface treatment company, says the move up from 7.5 tonne to 12 tonne is due to changes in legislation over signage needed to be compliant.
“We now require much larger capacity vehicles to carry the increased amount of signage necessary ,” states Barlow.
“As a result, we chose to specify 12 tonne Isuzus for these replacement traffic management vehicles, based on the excellent performance of the Isuzu 7.5t predecessors.”
Earlier this year, prior to going into service for RMS, one of the new Isuzu F120.240 4x2 rigids formed the centrepiece of the Isuzu Truck stand at the 2015 CV Show, when ITUK launched its Euro 6 12 tonne range.
“The two Isuzu 7.5tonners have been excellent performers within our fleet for such a long time now,” adds Barlow.
“Their reliability has also been complimented by the first-class service and support that we get from our local Isuzu dealer, as and when we need it,” he says.
The two Isuzu F120.240 rigids have 4,990mm wheelbases and were specified with multi-purpose four -section Brit-Tipp bodies, designed for signage vehicle applications.
With an overall body length of 7,000mm, payload is 6,350kg.
RMS says it also likes the truck’s compact overall size and small cab dimensions, as well as its low chassis height.
The Isuzu F120.240 chassis cab is known for its manoeuvrability and was also specified with Isuzu’s Easyshift semi-automated transmission.
It has the four-cylinder 5.2 litre 236bhp diesel engine, delivering 765Nm torque.
Both of the 12 tonners were supplied by local Isuzu Truck dealer Warrington Vehicle Centre, long term supplier of new vehicles and after sales support to RMS.
