The company also used the occasion to announce plans to build the UK’s first 15.65m lifting-deck longer semi-trailer.
Commissioned by a high-profile customer, the trailer’s precise specification is yet to be confirmed. However, it will feature four separate temperature zones and have a capacity of 60 pallets – more than double the number that can be carried on a standard, 13.6m single-deck trailer.
Prince Charles – who uses the title of Duke of Rothesay when in Scotland – was shown around the facility by joint managing directors Peter and James Gray, sons of the co-founder Jim Gray.
The factory tour took in all stages of the production process, and the prince is said to have shown particular interest in the different types of insulated panel used for trailers and bodies.
