Scania has resumed production of its V8 engines after a strike at one of its main casting suppliers caused “the worst disruption in many decades” for the manufacturer’s supply chain.
Scania has now secured “a small but steady” initial supply of the engine blocks used for the V8 unit, which is built in Södertälje, Sweden.
“There will still be uncertainties for some weeks before we have the whole picture and can ramp up our production,” says Alexander Vlaskamp, senior VP and head of Scania Trucks.
“But we are starting now, and will increase gradually with the aim of confirming a correct delivery schedule during the next few months for existing orders. We will successively open up for new orders.”
The V8 engines are used in Scania’s trucks, as well as in industrial and marine markets.
