School bus offers 'cinema' experience

Centurion Travel Limited has taken delivery of a new high-capacity Irizar i4 Integral for use on school transport contracts in Bath.

The i4, at 13.6m on three axles, features 80 PPS seats in a 3 + 2 configuration. It is made fully accessible by a Masats KS7 semi-automatic wheelchair lift positioned in the luggage compartment for side loading.

Steve Spiller, director of Centurion Travel, says: “The i4 is certainly turning heads and people are already asking questions about it. Everyone loves the interior design and it feels like you are walking into a posh cinema.” The theatre-style seating is the result of the slightly-rising flat floor.

Mechanically, the coach is powered by a 367bhp, MX11 270 DAF engine driven through ZF’s Traxon 12-speed automated gearbox. The rear-steer ZF axle enables this longer, tri-axle coach to access tight spaces when required.

Passenger comfort and safety is provided by three-point seatbelts and individual service sets fitted to the underside of the luggage racks, to control the Hispacold climate control system.

A Clean Air Zone (CAZ) was introduced in Bath 12 months ago to tackle air pollution in the city. Centurion Travel has invested just short of £2m in upgrading its fleet to Euro VI levels, enabling full access to the city without penalty.
