Scottish operator takes first Actros from new Mercedes dealer

Lovie Quarry & Concrete Products has taken delivery of a new Mercedes-Benz Actros – its first vehicle from new dealer BLS Truck & Van, of Aberdeen.

Based near Fraserburgh, and with a network of quarries across north-east Scotland, the operator has used Mercedes-Benz trucks since the 1970s.

“We’re very happy to give the new dealer the opportunity to demonstrate what they can do,” said Michael Lovie, director.

“This helps to explain why, despite the fact that we have our own workshop here in Fraserburgh, BLS will be inspecting and maintaining our latest tractor unit under a Mercedes-Benz Complete Service Contract.”

The Euro VI Complete Service Contract also entitles the operator to a free replacement vehicle (or financial equivalent) if the truck is not back on the road within 24 hours of a breakdown.

The Actros 2553 has replaced a nine-year-old Mercedes vehicle. “We tend to run our trucks for a long time,” added Lovie. “Experience has proved they are built to stand the pace and, compared to other brands represented in our fleet, they are also highly competitive in terms of unladen weight and fuel efficiency.”

The new addition is powered by a 523bhp, 12.8-litre engine, and is delivering sand, aggregates, stone, concrete blocks and precast products.

The Actros is fitted with the manufacturer’s Uptime technology, which uses sensors to monitor the vehicle’s condition, in turn enabling the dealer to order any parts in advance.
