Secure spec for Proteus Waterproofing’s first Renault vehicle

Roofing business Proteus Waterproofing has taken delivery of its first fleet vehicle, a Renault Range C rear-steer rigid, citing the dealer’s service and ability to customise the truck’s specification, including a bespoke load-securing system.

Supplied by Renault Trucks Essex, the Rayleigh-based firm’s new addition is an 11-litre Range C380 6x2. The smooth curtainside body, with no visible straps, is by Wheelbase Engineering, and the vehicle is also fitted with a 2,000kg Dhollandia cantilever tail-lift.

“Customer service was a huge part of the decision-making process and Renault Trucks’ approach was excellent from the outset,” says Proteus Waterproofing’s Rozalind Richardson, adding that Renault won “hands down” on product and service.

The rear-steer axle provides the manoeuvrability that Proteus needs for deliveries in busy streets, in and around London, while yellow cab livery, flashing side markers and rear LED light cluster boost on-road visibility.

Load securing is vital, adds Richardson, as the roofing felt can be damaged in transit.

“The strapping on the bed of the third party truck we were previously using was 1 metre apart on either side – the Range C features pull-up load retention rings and we specified strapping every 500mm.

“We also have a rave-to-rave load restraint system suspended from the roof, which means the pallets can also be secured from above, giving us an additional method of ensuring the load arrives in tip top condition.”
