Shellfish supplier turns the tide with new telematics solution

Telematics
Shellfish supplier Keltic Seafare has implemented a telematics solution from Kinesis, citing ease of use and cost as reasons for replacing its existing “clunky” tracking system.

Keltic is also using the Kinesis system to improve driving standards and performance, and to manage drivers’ hours and break periods.

Keltic’s mixed fleet collects live shellfish from dedicated fishermen operating along the north-west Highland coast. Once produce arrives at the factory in Dingwall, it is sorted and packed to order before being dispatched on next-day delivery to chefs, restaurants and discerning private customers across the UK and Europe.

“Ours is not a 9-to-5 operation,” says Alasdair Hughson, Keltic’s managing director. “So, being able to access vehicle locations, estimated ETAs and driver behaviour alerts, 24/7, from any internet-connected device is critical to our logistics operation.

“To ensure live produce journeys, from seabed to table, within a 24- to 36-hour window, we need to know exactly where our vehicles are at all times. Kinesis helps us to achieve this.”

He adds: “Kinesis is intuitive and the interface, even on mobile devices, is easy to use.

“It is cost effective and, we hope, will deliver efficiencies in vehicle routing, co-ordination and driver behaviour as we plan for continued growth.”
