GW Sissons & Son has taken the first two of 12 new MAN TGX 26.440BLS 6x2 tractor units, with range topping XXL cabs.
They are part of a delivery schedule due to be complete early in 2011, and will signal the Leeds-based transport and warehousing specialist's conversion to an all-MAN fleet – all under three-year R&M contract.
All the trucks are being fitted with MAN fleet management systems, including MAN EcoStyle, MAN's web-based driver performance management tool.
Managing director Bryan Sissons says his company conducted an exhaustive cost-benefit analysis, which saw the MAN TGX emerge as the best truck over a three-year period.
However, Sissons singles out fuel savings for comment: "In its first week, our first MAN returned just under 9.0mpg. It's bedded in a bit now, and we're seeing over 9.0mpg regularly. For our operation, and at 44 tonnes, that's an exceptional fuel return – and all without AdBlue."
And he adds: "I must also congratulate the team at the local MAN dealership in Normanton, Pelican Engineering. We've had a relationship with the company, on and off, since 1936, and during recent years they have been our sole supplier of over 500 trucks."
Today, Sissons operates a general dry freight haulage fleet, with maximum weight curtainsided trailers.
