“It’s impressive and really gratifying that Värnamo has now decided to lead the way and create a sustainable public transport system based on our hybrid buses,” says Martin Spjern, key account manager Nordic at Volvo Buses, declaring electrically powered buses to be “the future for both large cities and small towns”.
The bus operates on electric only for 70% of the route. Opportunity charging is used, taking three or four minutes each time, and the electric-hybrid uses around 60% less energy than an equivalent diesel-powered version.
The buses operating in Värnamo will run on renewable electricity and renewable HVO fuel, cutting carbon dioxide emissions by 90%.
The four electric-hybrid buses and their ABB charging station will be delivered as a turnkey solution, with Volvo maintaining the buses and batteries at a fixed monthly cost.
