Carlin (pictured) joined Tip from his previous role as operations director of Gray Rentals, continuing this role with Tip following its acquisition by the Tip Group in 2023.
He is responsible for the maintenance and quality standards of the Tip’s maintained fleet of more than 45,000 trucks and trailers combined, as well overseeing both internal and external maintenance contracts for the group. Alongside this, Carlin’s position oversees all OEM relationships from a technical and warranty perspective, while providing support for Tip’s customers when specifying new truck and trailer stock.
Carlin said: “Having joined the business following the merger with Gray Rentals in 2023, I am looking forward to undertaking my new role as fleet and engineering director at Tip Group. The business enjoys not only longstanding relationships with customers and OEMs, but it also has a notably strong commercial team within it. I am enthusiastic about working with Tip to drive future growth, while furthering the already high standards of engineering excellence that our customers have come to rely on.”
As part of his role, Carlin will oversee the Tip Training Academy, which was set up to provide technician training to the next generation of mechanics.
“The decarbonisation and electrification of our industry will see huge changes occurring from a technical perspective, so it’s vital that we continue to upskill and grow our workforce of maintenance technicians to stay ahead of the curve. In this way we can continue to offer our customers the highest possible levels of service at a time of change within the transportation sector,” added Carlin.
Scott Davies, operations leader UK & Ireland for Tip, said: “It is fantastic to be able to promote proven talent from within our existing team. Mark has been an integral part of Tip’s operations since he joined in 2022, and his ground-up understanding of the industry will prove a huge asset to both Tip and our customer base as we move into the next phase of growth.”
