The bodies, by Thompsons UK, have been fitted to Scania chassis in both 6x4 and 8x4 configurations.
Multimaster is said to be ideal for tipping wet and sticky loads such as sand, muck and topsoil, thanks to its smooth, curved floor design.
Thompson & Son’s new additions are made of steel, although the Multimaster also comes as an aluminium version. The body can handle all types of heavy duty loads such as stone, crushed concrete and rubble, and the steel version is around 300kg lighter than a typical 8x4 steel tipper body.
“We’ve run Thompsons tipper bodies for many years now,” says Alastair Cant, William Thompson’s general manager. “Our Loadmasters have given really impressive service – we’ve still got some ’57 registered vehicles running today... Multimaster is also a proven performer in our fleet, and complements the ultra-heavy duty Loadmasters perfectly.
“Running both body types also gives the fleet maximum the versatility to handle any type of job. As a policy, we are always looking to take maximum advantage of new products and technologies as they come along.”
William Thompson operates from a quarry close to the Erskine Bridge. The new vehicles are operating on intensive short-haul work, loading and tipping eight times a day.
