Tory party conference delegates invited to take truck driving challenge

Politicans at next month’s Conservative party conference will be able to find out how skilled a truck driver is, with a truck-driving challenge as part of an exhibition by the Road Haulage Association.

The RHA is exhibiting at the conference (Manchester, 4-7 October) to highlight the acute driver shortage and to promote its new campaign, National Lorry Week, which takes place at the end of next month.

Delegates will be able to take part in a Top Gear style challenge on the RHA’s truck simulator. The aim will be for competitors to beat a score set by the RHA’s ‘Stig’, the UK’s best truck driver. Boris Johnson has been invited by the RHA to be the first delegate behind the wheel.

“A key reason why we are at the conference is to promote our upcoming national awareness campaign, ‘National Lorry Week’,” says RHA chief executive Richard Burnett (pictured).

“This is designed to educate the public and politicians about the critical nature that lorries and road freight play in everyday life.”
