Tower Transit orders 28 StreetDeck HEVs

Bus & Coach Hybrids
Bus operator Tower Transit has ordered 28 Wrightbus StreetDeck HEV vehicles, to be deployed in the capital next summer.

The decision was driven by potential fuel savings, after impressive performance from the StreetDeck HEV on the test track and in other operations in London.

Built to TfL specification, all of the StreetDeck HEVs are twin door and 10.6m in length. Each has a Daimler OM934 Euro VI engine with Voith D854.6 gearbox including integrated retarder. They also feature electronic power-assisted steering and stop-start engine technology.

Other features include Smartblinds, a 15-camera CCTV system, powered ramp to the mid-door and a reversing camera.

These are the first StreetDeck HEVs for Tower Transit, although it already has a number of StreetLite single-deckers in the fleet.

Satnam Cheema, group engineering director for Tower Transit, says: “We have purchased these vehicles based on the expected levels of fuel efficiency and overall environmental performance.

“We’ve always experienced good performance from Wrightbus and look forward to see how the StreetDeck HEV performs when it enters service with our fleet next year.”
