Huntingdon-based Williams Transport has taken delivery of its first Iveco Stralis Hi-Way – and says that, after just a few weeks in operation, the truck is already its top-performing vehicle for fuel efficiency.
Supplied by dealer Guest Truck & Van, the Stralis AS440S46TX/P 6x2 twin-steer is being used for heavy-duty work with a moving floor trailer, transporting waste paper and compost. Fitted with long-range fuel tanks, the Iveco is powered by an EEV-rated FPT Industrial 10.3-litre Cursor 10 engine, which gives up to 460bhp between 1,550 and 2,100 rev/min, plus 2,100 Nm of torque between 1,050 and 1,550 rev/min. It also has EuroTronic automated transmission as standard. The vehicle has been fitted with Iveco's Eco Pack for additional fuel-saving capability. This features EcoSwitch, which uses vehicle weight information to minimise fuel consumption, and an EcoFleet mode, which automatically adjusts vehicle loading to maximise fuel economy and optimised drive axle ratios. Andy Williams, director, says the new vehicle is performing well and "beating everything else in the fleet on fuel". Williams Transport operates a 65-strong fleet and plans to run the Stralis Hi-Way for six years, covering up to 140,000km a year.
