Transport and distribution company S&R Smith & Son has taken delivery of its first Euro 6 DAF XF tractor – the first of an order of eight – which is also the operator’s 100th DAF truck.

With a special livery to commemorate the fleet addition, the XF460 truck is also S&R Smith's first to feature the AS Tronic automated transmission.

Supplied by dealer Harris DAF Grays with a two-year R&M contract, the West Thurrock-based operator's vehicle has a Paccar MX-13 engine delivering 460bhp, with 2,300 Nm of torque from 1,000 to 1,425 rpm.

Like the rest of its 54-strong DAF fleet, the new XFs will have 24/7 GPS tracking and custom software to measure and report on key performance indicators such as arrival and waiting times, fuel economy and harsh braking.
