UK Isuzu team wins top prize in world competition

Two technicians and their coach from Isuzu Truck (UK) have beaten 31 other teams to clinch the I-1 Grand Prix, Isuzu's annual world technical competition – the first time the UK has taken the top prize.
Held in Japan last week, the competition saw teams from 31 countries compete a series of tests covering mechanical measuring, checking serviceability and a practical assembly exercise, as well as electrical diagnostics, practical repair tests, a vehicle inspection and systems management diagnosis. They also had to undergo a written exam covering general and Isuzu-specific technical knowledge. The UK team was technicians Brian George, from Imperial Commercials in Glasgow, and Chris Richmond from Ferndown Commercials in Dorset, who were marshalled by team coach Tony Hicks, technical trainer at Isuzu Trucks (UK). Second place went to Australia, with Switzerland in third position. Competition host Japan – last year's winner – took fourth place.
