UK’s ‘most technically advanced’ wheel and tyre assembly plant to open in Coventry

Voith Industrial Services is developing a new multi-million pound facility for wheel and tyre assembly in Coventry.

Due to open next year, the site – described as “the UK’s most technically advanced wheel and tyre assembly plant” – will replace Voith’s existing facility nearby, where it has assembled wheels and tyres for 30 years.

The new plant will be housed in one building covering 140,000 sq ft, versus three buildings covering 97,000 sq ft currently. Each wheel and tyre assembly will be completed in 12 seconds – compared to 20 seconds on the existing line.

The investment comes on the back of growing demand from Voith’s customers such as Jaguar Land Rover and Vauxhall.

“We expect to see our turnover increase significantly over the coming years as our customer base expands,” says Voith’s Phillip Spencer.

“The increasing demand for our expertise in wheels and tyre assembly means that we can now invest in the latest automation and computer-based technologies for this operation.”
