Volkswagen Commercial Vehicles says the reason for a third of all light commercial vehicles (LCVs) failing their MOT is due to a lack of routine maintenance.
The company has analysed DVSA (Driver and Vehicle Standards Agency) figures, released in May, which showed half of LCVs fail their MOT first time.
Almost a third (32.8%) of these were caused by simple-to-fix faults that would be spotted during routine maintenance – such as faulty bulbs, insufficient tyre tread or empty windscreen washer bottles.
Volkswagen's van centres achieve a 98% first-time pass rate and offer fixed prices for maintenance and for MOTs. Class 4 MOTs are £40 and Class 7 £50. A service and MOT test package costs £145 plus VAT.
