The launch of the fully electric heavy-duty concept truck follows the manufacturer’s announcement of sales starting for electric FL and FE urban trucks (see link below).
“We see great potential for heavy-duty electric trucks for regional transport and construction in the longer term,” says Roger Alm, president of Volvo Trucks. “With our concept trucks, we aim to explore and demonstrate different solutions for the future while evaluating the level of interest in the market and in society.”
The truck maker believes heavy-duty electric trucks will be particularly beneficial to the construction sector, with zero emissions and quiet operation in and around city centres.
It also highlights the potential of electric vehicles for regional goods distribution within the EU.
“In Europe, there is an enormous number of trucks used for regional goods transport that have an average annual mileage of 80,000km. This means that increased use of electric vehicles for regional distribution would result in significant climate gains, provided the electricity is fossil free,” says Lars Mårtensson, the truck maker’s director of environment and innovation.
He adds that expanded charging infrastructure and financial incentives for hauliers will also boost take-up of heavy-duty electric trucks.
