Logistics firm Bedfords Group has taken delivery of nine Euro 6 Volvo FH-500 tractor units, after what it describes as an in-depth evaluation of vehicle reliability, fuel performance and dealer support.
Vehicle reliability, in particular, was a key factor, according to the Birstall, West Yorkshire-based firm, as business improvement director Lee Nichols explains.
"Our trucks are used seven days a week on high-profile contract distribution, including newsprint... So we have high expectations of our vehicles in terms of reliability."
He adds: "We also work closely with our transport solutions providers, such as Crossroads Group, to ensure that we optimise efficiency and minimise the risk of a breakdown in such a time-sensitive delivery environment."
Driver feedback, too, was crucial to the deal: "The new Volvos are at the cutting edge of technology and I am pleased to say have generated a high level of positive driver feedback," says Nichols.
Supplied by dealer Crossroads Group, the new vehicles will be maintained on a three-year Volvo Gold R&M contract.
