The used truck donation follows on from a £67,080 contribution raised from an auction at Volvo UK’s 50th anniversary Gala dinner which saw a top-of-the-range ‘limited edition’ gold FH16-750 with the registration plate ‘FH16 ONE’ sold to Manfreight of Northern Ireland.
The 2012 Volvo FH 6x2 tractor unit comes from Volvo’s approved used truck stock and features a 460hp Euro-5 engine coupled to a 12-speed I-Shift automated transmission system. The 3,900mm wheelbase chassis is also fitted with a plain white Globetrotter XL cab.
Transaid’s road safety project manager Neil Rettie says: “This vehicle donation from Volvo will make a real difference to our Professional Driver Training project – Uganda. With drivers starting training in November, this vehicle has come at a perfect time. We are hugely thankful to Volvo for this donation which will enable thousands of drivers to be trained over the next few years.”
Volvo Trucks became a corporate member of Transaid in 2009. The FH tractor unit donation has been a direct response to an appeal by Transaid in the summer to find a second-hand tractor unit to support a new driver-training project in Uganda.
