Wincanton reports concrete benefits with Arocs mixers

Concrete Mixers Rigids
Wincanton says its Mercedes-Benz Arocs 8x4 mixers are proving their worth, with 21 of a 25-vehicle order now in operation on a contract with Aggregate Industries.

The logistics operator was the first to enter the ready-mixed concrete supply chain, and ordered 25 Arocs eight-wheelers last year from dealer Orwell Truck & Van.

“They’ve proved every bit as reliable and cost effective to operate as we’d hoped, while driver feedback has also been resoundingly positive,” says Ranald Forbes, director of construction at Wincanton.

All are Arocs 3240 LB (mixer) models with air-suspended rear axles, 395bhp engines and 12-speed PowerShift automated transmissions. Wincanton specified the N3 variant, which has front and rear underrun protection.

The vehicles have 8m3 Cifa drums, fitted by Wilcox Commercial Vehicles at its factory in Peterborough.

The L-ClassicSpace air-conditioned sleeper cabs have optional extras such as fridges and microwave ovens.

Specified to meet Wincanton’s FORS accreditation, the trucks are equipped with Mercedes-Benz safety technology, including Active Brake Assist, as well as recordable cameras, side and corner sensors, and left-hand turn alerts, all by Brigade Electronics.

Forward-facing MiX Telematics cameras also provide live feeds over the internet.

Forbes says the vehicle’s “top-notch” features help to attract the best drivers.

The mixer trucks are expected to be in operation for eight years.
