Bessie set to save truckers time and cost

Couplings
Illston and Robson has released a quick-change air line system, which it's calling the Bessie.
The company says it worked with inventor Colin Morris to develop the unit, which saves drivers having to wait for a fitter in the event of a line breakage. The air brake coil lines look conventional, but drivers can remove a lock at the A-frame end, uncouple the colour-coded air line, and replace it with a spare from the stowage compartment, before getting on their way. With air line breakages making up a significant proportion of all breakdowns, Bessie could mean big long term savings, particularly given that the cost of a replacement hose is a fraction of the cost of the kit – and any fine for late delivery. Also. since it uses BS138 couplings and comes with simple instructions, drivers need minimal extra training. What's more, Illston and Robson says variants enable a palm coupling set to be carried for picking up EU trailers, and for drawbar trailers where the air lines can be removed for overnight storage to prevent vandal damage and theft.
