Emission Control Maintenance

Operators of vehicle fleets throughout the UK are under pressure to reduce their environmental impact and, in particular, bus operators are required to demonstrate NOx emission compliance across their retrofitted fleet via a dedicated emissions telematics system.

Where the level of NOx reduction is non-compliant, vehicles are then charged to enter emission control zones such as the Ultra Low Emission Zone in London, or can even be refused entry into the zone.

Driveline Emissions Technologies were incorporated in Grangemouth, Scotland in 2005 and currently support their business through 10 depots strategically located throughout the UK. The depot teams consist of over 45 members who provide expertise in the maintenance, cleaning and refurbishment of exhaust system particulate filters, catalysts and EGR valves. As part of the cleaning and refurbishment process, Driveline can replace exhaust sensor bosses and flexible joints, system clamps and gaskets and other emissions and exhaust related components.

The company operates a fleet of vans based at its depots to facilitate a rapid response when a collection from a customer’s site is required. More routine component cleans are targeted to be completed and returned to the customer’s site within 24 hours and more complex full refurbishments have a 48-hour turnaround target. The company’s priority is to ensure that customers have their vehicles back on the road, earning again, within the shortest possible timescales and at the best possible price.

• 77% of exhaust cleans are completed and returned to the customer next day

• 63% of exhaust component and catalyst/filter refurbishments are returned to the customer within 48 hours

• 40+ jobs are completed every day across the Driveline network.

Driveline have recently opened their tenth depot consisting of a 3,000 square foot workshop and warehouse located in Swindon, Wiltshire.

The depot carries over £40,000 of stock to support the operation that has been implemented to further support customers located in the West of England, the South Coast, Southern Midlands and the Western boroughs of London.  Swindon offers excellent transport links to many of the major road routes and is ideally located to help the organisation to provide its collection and rapid turnround service for all customers.

Over the last two years throughout its depot network Driveline have:

• completed over 17,000 works cutting costs for over 2,000 customers whilst reducing vehicle down-time

• refurbished over 1,000 diesel oxidisation catalysts (DOCs)

• refurbished over 2,000 selective catalytic reduction (SCR) units

• supplied over 5,500 exhaust clamp and gasket kits

• replaced over 700 exhaust sensor bosses

• replaced over 600 flexible exhaust joint pipes.

Commencing with an X-ray on components, a robust 12-point inspection and cleaning process is completed that can successfully recover and remove even the most severe AdBlue, oil and fuel deposits. If at any stage of this process any components are found to be beyond rescue, then a full refurbishment can be completed which can completely restore system emission reduction performance whilst enhancing system and vehicle functionality and reliability.

Driveline are certified to ISO 9001 and exhaust refurbishments are completed using certified Euro 6 catalyst and particulate filter substrates. Driveline provides customers with a 12-month guarantee on all works completed.

Due to high operator demand, the firm are pleased to announce that they can now offer customers experienced Emission Specialist engineers who can resolve issues and faults with all types of OEM and retrofitted emission control exhaust systems.
