Skills Challenge returns for 2023

Publish Date: Updated Date: Apprenticeships Bus & Coach
IRTE’s Skills Challenge of bus and coach engineering technicians has opened for entrants. In the competition, contestants pit their wits against a number of tasks involving their practical and theoretical knowledge over the course of a day.

As in previous years, the competition is open to challengers from mechanical, electrical, mechelec and bodywork disciplines, for both apprentices and qualified technicians. A competition for experts – the Skills Challenge masters – also makes a return at this year’s event, which will run the first week of June at technical college S&B Automotive Academy in Bristol.

Teams from bus and coach operators are invited to enter the competition.

Contestants are eligible to attend an exclusive awards lunch.

Last year, the Outstanding Qualified Team Award – for technicians who had the highest-scoring overall performance – went to First Bus. Contestants from Go-Ahead London and East Yorkshire Buses also took home prizes.
