The new arrivals are parallel hybrid Volvo B5LH models, with Wrightbus bodywork, and deliver CO2 emission reductions of up to 39% compared with conventional diesel double-deckers.
The operator’s latest hybrid order was part funded by a grant from the government’s OLEV (Office for Low Emission Vehicles), designed to support the market for ultra-low emission vehicles.
Phil Cummins, Arriva’s area managing director for the North West, says: “Upgrading our fleet to include hybrid buses such as these, really is a ‘win-win’ situation. The government incentivises us to switch to hybrid vehicles and, once we switch, we are then rewarded with the benefits of increased efficiency and lower fuel costs going into the future.”
On Volvo’s selection, he adds: “In the past, we have experienced good reliability and build quality from Volvo, as well as substantial fuel savings, which meant we had no hesitation in selecting the company once again for this latest order.”
