Europe’s first BioLPG supply on line from Q2 next year

Alternative Fuels
BioLPG will be available to the warehousing, transport and logistics sector from Q2 2017, when Calor becomes the first energy company in Europe to provide the new, renewable fuel source.

BioLPG is created from renewable feedstocks, such as organic plant materials, vegetable oil and animal fats, and, says Calor, when used in combination with conventional LPG (60% LPG; 40% BioLPG) it can cut emissions by more than 30% with no impact on performance.

The fuel is chemically identical to conventional LPG, so no alterations are needed to vehicles, appliances or supply infrastructure.

“Following the UK’s ambitious new target to cut carbon emissions by 57% against 1990 levels by 2032, more and more businesses are looking for measures to improve their green credentials,” says Mark Cleaver, Calor’s group product manager for biofuels, adding that BioLPG meets all the criteria laid out in the Renewable Energy Directive.

“The industry is already familiar with the benefits of investing in LPG... Now, with BioLPG, carbon emissions can be reduced even further,” he says.

“We have chosen to offer the fuel to the warehouse, logistics and transport sectors first as we believe they are best placed to take full advantage of the carbon savings and will benefit most from the reduced environmental impact.”

Fuel supply options will include bulk tanks, cylinders and fixed fuel tanks.

“This is not an altruistic move,” says Cleaver. “As a key player in the energy market, we must continually strive to improve our own environmental performance and deliver products and solutions that help our customers deliver better energy savings to improve bottom line profitability.”
