Salvatori delighted with DAF XF 460 FTG fuel figures 17 July 2015

Kent-based haulier and logistics firm Salvatori says it is achieving “outstanding” fuel economy from its latest batch of Euro 6 DAF XF 460 FTG 6x2 tractor units.

In service since March this year (2015), the seven new tractors are returning, on average 9.6mpg at 44-tonnes gcw and, says the company, that's on hard day and night trunking work.

Salvatori transport manager Phill Macey says that is a significant improvement compared with the rest of its 64-strong truck fleet.

The XF Super Space Cabs were the first deliveries for the fruit-merchanting and pallet specialist since the 1980s and coincided with its imminent move to a new £5.5 million facility in Aylsham, adjacent to DAF dealership Channel Commercials.

Channel Commercials – which supplied the nes trucks – will undertake servicing and maintenance work under a two-year R&M contract, although Salvatori will use its own workshops for minor repair work.

"The Euro 6 DAF demonstrator turned in some really impressive fuel figures, so you can imagine my delight when the new DAF deliveries hit the high-nines, too," says Macey.

"I would expect this figure perhaps to rise after they've bedded-in. What has surprised me, however, is that we've been working them hard from day one on day and night trunking operations," he continues.

"All this and we received a cracking good deal from Channel Commercials."
