Waste management firm predicts savings with in-house brake testing

Waste management and recycling business B&M Waste Services has deployed a new brake testing solution at its Wirral headquarters, and is reporting “significant” time savings.

The operator previously outsourced brake testing for its 30-strong fleet to a designated test lane, but decided to bring the task in house.

Totalkare installed a mobile brake tester with bi-directional rollers. This can test up to 20,000kg per axle and is controlled by a handheld tablet that means tests can be carried out by the driver from the cab. In addition, no civils work is required, making installation simple and straightforward.

“Bringing brake testing in-house is already saving us a significant amount of time and we estimate this investment will have offset the cost of outsourcing within three years,” says Andy Eames of B&M Waste Services.

“We were impressed with the build quality of the brake tester and simplicity of the testing process.”
