Volvo Trucks - The hamster stunt17 September 2013

Charlie, a hamster apparently trained to drive trucks, demonstrates the precision of Volvo's Dynamic Steering system – designed to take the strain out of turning the wheel – by steering a 15-tonne Volvo FMX from the bottom of a Spanish quarry to the top.

Precision driver Seon Rogers handles the pedals, directing the hamster with the help of a tasty carrot.

"At low speeds, a heavily laden vehicle is so easy to manoeuvre that it can be steered with just one finger," comments Jan-Inge Svensson, the engineer who developed the steering system software.

Or even a carrot: rather him than us
