Before I came into this role, I had heard all about the Commercial Vehicle Show (CV Show), an integral part of the transport, road freight, distribution, and logistics landscape for the last 25 years, and I am excited to see what all the fuss is about it when it returns from 29 April to 1 May, at the Birmingham NEC.

The CV Show has seen organisational changes for 2025, as the Nineteen Group has taken over the running of the event in partnership with the RHA and SMMT, with the group promising to revamp the show, outlining lofty growth goals for future editions at the recent preview event.

I am particularly looking forward to attending the wide-ranging conference programme, where there are some interesting speakers from across the industry, speaking on critically important issues such as decarbonisation, cyber security and more.

Other highlights include the launch, at the IRTE’s stand (5C24) on Tuesday 29 April at 11.10am, of the IRTE’s Maintenance Provision Rating Scheme (MPRS) following a successful pilot programme. The MPRS is designed to set a new benchmark for excellence in vehicle maintenance and operational standards, offering organisations a robust framework to assess and improve their practices. It will raise workshop standards across the sector.

If you are around on day one (29 April) of the CV Show, please do come along to see me on the main stage, where I am set to host a panel discussion from 12.30-1pm on emerging technologies, likely to feature experts from Samsara, EFreight and Isuzu, who will reveal new developments. For more details about what you can expect at the CV Show, head to pp20-21.

Finally, it was great to celebrate International Women’s Day on 8 March and to see that the Society of Operations Engineers (SOE) has partnered with Women in Bus and Coach to tackle the underrepresentation of women in engineering. The landmark partnership is focusing on increasing female representation at this year’s IRTE Bus & Coach Skills Challenge 2025 from 2-6 June.

Registration closes on 30 April so make sure you are signed up for the prestigious event in Bristol. (www.tinyurl.com/33kaaa53).
