Join the Buses Directorate, and you'll be part of 500-strong team dedicated to delivering the very best experience for all our passengers. A team responsible for strategy, route planning and the application of future technologies, as well as day-to-day operations. Working closely with senior management within our Buses Directorate and at bus companies, you'll help ensure high engineering standards are maintained. You'll also raise awareness to rectify recurring problems and improve overall bus performance and presentation. Utilising information gathered by monitoring programmes will be important too. Indeed, your key aim will be to encourage operators to acknowledge deficiencies and develop and implement plans to effect remedial actions.
Along the way, you'll gain exposure to diverse new and emerging technology such as hydrogen fuel cell, electric, hybrid & Routemaster buses. We'll also rely on you to identify and monitor new and emerging trends and manage performance improvement to deliver a safe and reliable network. Working with front line operators; auditing presentation and engineering quality and carrying out research and detailed analysis – all are aspects of this challenging and rewarding role.
To succeed, you'll need a background in bus engineering or a related technical area, with management level experience an advantage. You'll also need to be a CPC and PSV holder who's familiar with quality and transport management systems. Good budgetary/financial management awareness and the ability to build effective relationships with a variety of stakeholders, internal and external, at all levels, is also key. You're a strong project manager too, with an aptitude for statistical analysis and interpretation and, ideally, proficiency using project management methodology and reporting tools. And, when it comes to negotiating to progress engineering performance improvements, again, you deliver.
