Vehicle Policy Manager Transport for London £49,500 - £54,000

People
Shape a world-class approach to licensing taxis, private hire vehicles and pedicabs for London.

Where you’ll work

Transport for London (TfL) keeps one of the greatest cities in the world moving. London’s transport network makes a huge difference to the city’s economy, communities and environment. We take pride in creating a network that works for everyone. As part of this, we’re the largest licensing authority in England, responsible for over a third of all taxi and private hire vehicle services.

What you’ll do

As Vehicle Policy Manager, you’ll be responsible for reviewing and developing licensing policies and standards in London for taxis, private hire and pedicab vehicles. We’ll look to you to develop and produce proposals for the continuous improvement of licensing requirements and standards. You’ll do this by researching practices from around the world, and developing an understanding of the future tech and business models which may impact these industries.

Crucially, you’ll engage with a range of stakeholders in a variety of ways – from working with the Department for Transport on changes to vehicle regulations, legislation and guidance, through to drafting policy changes and presenting these to TfL colleagues. Ultimately, you’ll help us achieve our aim of a safe, secure, accessible, world-class taxi and private hire service, and London’s first ever licensing scheme for pedicabs.

What you’ll need

We can consider a range of qualifications for this role, such as BTEC HNC/HND motor vehicle technology / mechanical engineering / electrical engineering. You’ll certainly need proven professional experience of vehicle repair or fleet operations, together with a positive attitude to change. The ability to plan, organise and prioritise your own workload is also essential.

Excellent communication skills will be key to your success as Vehicle Policy Manager. We expect you to demonstrate the ability to explain technical information clearly to non-technical people both face to face and in written reports, policy documents, guidance note and letters.

What to expect

At TfL, you’ll rapidly broaden and deepen your skills, knowledge and experience. You’ll work with collaborative and supportive colleagues in a company that champions inclusivity and diversity. You’ll unlock your full potential through our range of people initiatives and career progression frameworks. And you’ll enjoy flexible hybrid working, to help you maintain a good work/life balance.

Naturally, you can expect free travel on TfL services and discounts on national rail services. You’ll also enjoy the advantages of a competitive company benefits package.
