Transport for London (TfL) sets regulations and develops standards which affect the travelling public and the livelihoods of approximately 150,000 licensees in the taxi and private hire industries, in addition to licensing approximately 80,000 taxi and private hire vehicles.
The role
Your role working within the vehicle policy team will be to develop, implement and maintain vehicle policy; this will include setting standards for vehicle safety, new vehicle designs and technology and passenger accessibility provision.
You will also assist in the work with vehicle manufacturers and technology suppliers to take forward the provision of alternative fuels and drivetrain technologies, including electric and hybrid technologies to ensure the continued development of both the taxi and private hire vehicle transport modes.
You will be working on exciting, dynamic and interesting projects with key stakeholders such as fleet operators, individual drivers, vehicle manufacturers, design companies and technology suppliers to deliver innovative and strategic initiatives to meet Mayoral commitments and other similar TfL projects.
What you'll need
You will have motor vehicle technical knowledge and experience, including current knowledge of vehicle regulations and legislation, you will play a key part in delivering TfL's vision for the licensing and regulation of a safe and affordable London taxi and private hire fleet.
Your background will be in a motor vehicle environment in a technical capacity or similar, and will be underpinned by a BTEC HNC/HND motor vehicle technical qualification (or equivalent relevant qualification). You will also need excellent communication skills and report writing ability, including good attention to detail, as well as being able to demonstrate research and analytical skills. All of which will be supported by a sound knowledge of Microsoft Office.
