As Workshop Controller you will manage people, productivity and workshop performance. Reporting to the Workshop Manager, and with responsibility for a team of Workshop Supervisors, you will drive productivity, efficiency and utilisation through the workshop. You will be responsible for managing workshop technical staff; controlling costs of maintenance for the allocated London Fire Brigade vehicles, and ensure the provision of vehicles in line with identified operational requirements.
About the job:
- ensure that all vehicles are maintained and serviced in accordance with pre planned schedules
- liaise with Supervisors & Technicians to ensure operational requirements are identified and achieved
- ensure vehicle job packs are completed accurately and filed appropriately
- offer technical expertise to the workshop in order to identify efficiencies and cost savings
- deputise for the Workshop Manager
- manage the application of people practices, managing performance, absence, disciplinary and grievance procedures
- plan and manage resources to ensure high technical service delivery levels are achieved
- maximise workshop efficiency whilst reducing VOR downtime
- ensure that the quality of workmanship exceeds the customers requirements
About you – the key skills and experience you’ll need to demonstrate:
- practical experience of Large Goods Vehicle (LGV/HGV) fleet maintenance and repair; preferably from another 'Blue Light' emergency service or within the Haulage/Distribution sector
- knowledge of LGV vehicle specifications and maintenance requirements
- interpersonal skills required to build and maintain collaborative relationships with key stakeholders
- experience in managing, developing and leading a diverse team
- commitment to continuous improvement
- credibility and gravitas, and a passion and relentless energy for safety
