Through a network of dedicated specialist workshops, Babcock delivers a fleet repair and maintenance service to London Fire Brigade - the UK's busiest fire and rescue service, and one of the largest firefighting and rescue organisations in the world. Over a 21 year contract period, Babcock will be working with London Fire Brigade to manage and maintain its fleet of 500 vehicles and 40,000 pieces of specialist equipment, ranging from hydraulic rescue equipment to a junior hacksaw, across Greater London.
Being a Quality & Engineering Officer on this contract means relishing the opportunity to tackle real technical challenges. Reporting to the Engineering & Technical Manager, and working as part of a team, you will perform engineering quality monitoring on London Fire Brigade's fleet of vehicles; ensuring all vehicle and operational equipment assets are fit-for-purpose and are maintained to a high standard that meet both customer and contractual requirements. You will also take an active role in London Fire Brigade's asset replacement programme; interpreting output based specifications, turning these into technical documents that result in the building and delivering of an end product that meets contractual obligations.
In this customer-facing role you'll need credibility and gravitas in order to represent Babcock at customer meetings; often acting on behalf of the Engineering & Technical Manager, and lead on Safety Events reported by the customer. Committed to continuous improvement you will take a pro-active role in reviewing processes applied to vehicle and operational equipment inspection, servicing and repair processes and associated documentation.
As a member to the Institute of Road Transport Engineers (IRTE) you'll need practical experience of complex commercial vehicle fleet maintenance and repair, having had responsibility for developing and implementing technical and process changes to reduce repeat defects. Detailed knowledge of light and heavy motor vehicle roadworthiness requirements, and repair and maintenance practices, is essential.
You should have the interpersonal skills required to be able to build and maintain positive, collaborative working relationships with internal and external stakeholders, be able to lead a project team, and be able to spot opportunities for service enhancement. Overall, you will be a champion of high performance and have passion and relentless energy for safety.
Working across a range of sectors and environments, Babcock delivers critical resilience solutions for diverse organisations. In places like airports; for the emergency services; within the defence and utilities sectors; we ensure that complex operations have the infrastructure to look after their customers and their people.
