ATS Euromaster technician Michael Vasey has scooped the REACT Roadside Technician of the Year award from the National Tyre Distributors Association (NTDA) – the ‘Oscars’ for the tyre industry.

Vasey, who works at ATS Euromaster’s Aberdeen centre, was one of two winners of the award at a ceremony in Birmingham recently.

The 29-year-old works predominantly as a mobile technician, holds City and Guilds qualifications in all aspects of tyre fitting and roadside breakdown – including heavy industrial vehicles – and has worked airside at Aberdeen International Airport.

His role frequently entails making 100-mile round trips to customers: he joined ATS in 2012 and has carried out more than 4,000 jobs.

Peter Tye, group operations director for ATS Euromaster, says: “Michael exemplifies everything that ATS Euromaster stands for. He is the complete expert in his field, holding as many qualifications as it’s possible for a commercial tyre technician to have.

“His health and safety record is utterly spotless and he frequently, literally, goes the extra mile for our customers. He is a role model for tyre technicians everywhere and we are delighted that his outstanding commitment and competence has been recognised by the NTDA.”

Vasey adds: “I’m honoured to be considered as one of the top tyre technicians in the country. To get to this place, I’ve been supported by a fantastic operations manager and a company that doesn’t compromise on quality or safety. It’s a real privilege.”

The annual NTDA Awards are judged by a panel of industry peers and represent the highest accolades available in the tyre industry.
