Autoglass' 1,100-strong LCV fleet is to get Ashwoods Automotive's driver efficiency tool Lightfoot throughout – a move that the company believes will save it 15% on fuel costs, as well as reduce CO2 emissions by more than 1,000 tonnes a year.
Lightfoot is designed to help drivers self-manage and improve their fuel performance, without overbearing 'big brother' surveillance – although fleet manages do get a weekly email report.
"What we love about Lightfoot is that its sole focus is on improving driver efficiency from the moment they turn on the ignition," comments Matthew Mycock, managing director of Autoglass.
"Within a couple of days of using the tool we see many of our drivers go from spending 55—60% of their time in the green zone to hitting 90% and higher. Our savings in fuel costs speak for themselves," he continues.
"Our technicians have really embraced the technology," he adds. "We've even seen some light-hearted competitiveness emerging when the manager reports go up on the notice board every week."
In the cab, traffic lights indicate how efficiently a vehicle is being driven, with warnings triggered by drivers accelerating too quickly, revving the engine too much or idling for too long.
An additional idling functionality operational within the device also indicates when an Autoglass van is running but not being driven, encouraging drivers to remember to switch-off the engine.
