Baumann is launching a range of 120V electric side-loaders, which deliver the same travel and lift speeds as its diesel-powered units, but with lower operational costs for users.
The Italian manufacturer says electric side-loaders have increased in popularity due to low emissions, but until now users have extended work cycles by increasing the 80V battery system. This makes the truck very heavy: it takes more power to move it and calls for very large battery units.
Baumann developed the 120V system to deliver equivalent if not better performance than a larger battery using an 80V system. Battery changing is simpler for multi-shift operations, with fork pockets integrated into the battery box.
The company says maintenance costs are usually 50% less than the equivalent diesel unit.
Baumann cites one customer which, it says, saved £14,000 on fuel in a 9,000-hour period by switching from a diesel to electric side-loader.
"We believe the new 8-tonne Baumann electric side loader will have a significant future here in the UK," says Baumann's Andrew Burton.
