Faced with a problem transporting visitors to a French tourist attraction with limited space to turn buses around, Pailton Steering Systems has devised a novel solution.
The buses, built by Cataeno Bus in Portugal, have been supplied with specialist equipment that effectively means they have two fronts – enabling both forwards and backwards operation without turning.
Coventry-based Pailton was able to devise the novel approach to steering, supplying sliders, bevel boxes and drag links for the steering system of the Corbus DES bus, which is powered by a Cummins ISB6.7 engine matched to an Allison 2100 gearbox.
Five of the buses have now been purchased by Mont Saint-Michel, all capable of carrying up to 80 passengers.
