Clock ticking for Driver CPC compliance – survey

One in four commercial drivers have yet to complete the full 35 hours of CPC training needed before 2019, with almost half (49%) still at least 14 hours short.

That’s according to a survey of drivers and operators carried out by training provider Fleet Source, which is also primary Driver CPC training contractor for Transport for London.

“If drivers fail to complete their 35 hours of CPC training and they are driving professionally, then they can be fined up to £1,000,” points out Nick Caesari (pictured), managing director at Fleet Source.

Almost all (96%) said they were concerned for vulnerable road users around their vehicles, with this subject being the most popular training course for drivers. However, drivers also voted ‘vehicle roadworthiness’ as the most important training topic.

The survey also asked drivers if they could recognise relevant agencies or bodies: just one in ten was confident of knowing what identification undercover police officers carry. In addition, only 28% were ‘totally confident’ they could recognise a highways officer.
