In so doing, the system automatically reduces the speed of impact as much as possible with a moving or a stationary object ahead of the vehicle, if a driver is inattentive to dangerous situations.
The sophisticated safety system, offered as standard, comes in combination with adaptive cruise control (ACC) and forward collision warning (FCW).
This new generation of AEBS system more than doubles the number of antennae used by the dual radar system for far- and near-range detection. Second, the outer limits of that range have been increased by 50m to 250m, which the brand claims is the longest in the industry. Third, its near-range angle of view has been more than doubled to 120˚, to enable earlier prediction of cut-in situations.
AEBS operates together with the vehicle’s braking and stability control systems. Via audible and visual alerts and a firm haptic pulse (vibration of the brake pedal), the system prompts the driver to react to an imminent potential collision. If the driver fails to react, the truck automatically initiates emergency braking to avoid, or mitigate the impact of, a rear-end collision.
